The sound recording technology itself became the inspiration for the creation of this instrument. The final form is a hybrid of different devices, which I was able to disassemble, combine and use for the user interface.
Musical notation on the cylinder is read by photosensors while playing. It serves as a system which visually represents what the machine should play. Thanks to the rotating CD, the user has full control over the rotation of the cylinder. Additional knobs, buttons and sensors can be used to set the parameters of played sound.
Everything is powered by Arduino and some other hacked components from original devices.
